Karolis B. OJM was a great discovery for me, just like João's musical universe. Artistically, this CD surpasses all expectations and should be in the collection of all large ensemble jazz fans! Compositions, arrangements, solos - lately I'm still delving into this project and it still amazes me! It would be hard to pick a favourite track, so I'll go with Certeza, Fado Chão and Pode Ser Uma Serra. Best regards and thank you!

about

CARA002

In 2012, Guimarães Jazz proposed a collaboration with Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, the pianist and composer João Paulo Esteves da Silva and the record label TOAP (Tone of a Pitch Music). This reunion resulted in the work that is now resumed, with three new compositions; the re-edition of this album confirms the importance of establishing partnerships between festivals, events promoting jazz, musicians and institutions.

It is easier to talk about sad things. Therefore, I don’t find much to say about this re-edition of Bela Senão Sem, which is only a cause for joy, except to utter jubilant exclamations like: Spectacular! Fantastic! Excellent! etc. But one thing must be said. So, here it goes: This is a revised and expanded new edition, in which the revision compensates for the expansion. Three solo piano tracks, improvised compositions recorded at OJM's headquarters, at Real Vinícola, were added, and the surprise track with the collective improvisation “Fantasmas” was removed, although it remains available on the internet. I find the result very balanced with the writing and arrangement pieces framed by improvisations, at the beginning and at the end, as if pointing to an upcoming album.
