"Portugal's Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos commissioned pieces by eight modern composers of big band music—four each from either side of the Atlantic—for their latest album and swing only rarely entered into the equation. Although something at least a little like it lurks in the best of these numbers."
All About Jazz, 2014

Matosinhos is used to being the gateway to the Atlantic, facilitating contacts and exchanges between Europe and America. Based on this example, Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos planned a series of eight concerts focusing on eight important contemporary creators of orchestral jazz, comparing the musical identities of four Americans and four Europeans. But it went further and commissioned from them new works that were premiered at Cine-Teatro Constantino Nery in Matosinhos, in the series Jazz Composers Forum in April and July 2013. Now, these eight pieces are joined together in this CD featuring exciting musical proposals of an elite group of creators.
